Custom Melt and Pour Soap Tutorial using Water Soluble Paper

Customise your soap bars without the need for fancy moulds!

INGREDIENTS AND EQUIPMENT

  • A plain soap mould

  • Clear melt and pour soap base

  • White melt and pour soap base

  • Water soluble paper

  • Inkjet printer

  • Hairspray

  • Isopropyl alcohol

  • Microwave safe jug

  • Thermometer

METHOD

Step 1: Using an inkjet printer print your desired picture onto the water-soluble paper in the correct dimensions of your chosen mould.

Note: Ensure you are using an Inkjet Printer with Pigment type ink. This is to make sure the paper doesn’t dissolve in your printer and that the ink does not bleed in your soap.

Step 2: Spray your paper with a thin layer of hairspray and leave for 2-3 days. This is to limit the amount of ink bleeding. After this curing time, cut the pictures out into the desired shape to fit the mould.

Step 3: Melt the clear melt and pour soap base in the microwave in 30 second bursts until melted. Pour a thin layer into the mould and spray top with isopropyl alcohol.

Step 4: When the clear base is slightly set, place the pictures face down into the clear soap. Allow to set completely.

Step 5: Melt the white melt and pour soap base in the microwave in 30 second bursts until melted. Ensure the soap is cool enough to not melt the clear base. Pour between 48 degrees and 54 degrees.

Step 6: Gently pour over the clear base until the mould is filled. Allow to set completely before unmoulding.
